little d and I visited a local Montessori school today. Overall I liked the facility, the grounds, the atmosphere, the director. I've read quite a bit about the Montessori method, and having an active and bright boy, theorhetically, it sounds like a good fit.
Currently he attends the local First Baptist Church preschool, and while he's had sweet teachers and made a lot of friends, I can't help but think he could be learning more.
My concern redoubled since the news came out last week that ***40%*** of Georgia's 8th grade students FAILED the math portion of the CRCT (A national standardized test). That means summer school for those who failed, because "State law requires students in the third, fifth and eighth grades to pass certain standardized tests to advance to the next grade."- quote from Atlanta Journal Constitution.
***70-80%*** of 6th and 7th graders failed the social studies portion.
Our public schools in Georgia are clearing failing our children, they are a national joke, and at this point, not even an option for us.
